Golden sunset moth found in Craigieburn Truganina Mambourin, Mount Cottrell, Greenvale.
A Daniel Gilmour, Biosis Research zoologist says moth spent much of his underground life like a caterpillar and feeds of native grasses.
He says that new housing development sites provide perfect breeding conditions.
"The cold is actually causing havoc because we do not find it flies at this time", he said.
He says from the cold, ringworm is stay underground.
"As you will understand all these developers and managers of land and conservation groups want to know where it is and it does not play their usual game."
